A Chilling Psychological Horror Through a Smile

This time, I’m reviewing a movie that successfully gave me goosebumps: Obsession (2026).

For me personally, this film absolutely deserves a 9/10! The horror delivered here is spot on. This isn't your cheap horror movie relying solely on jumpscares; instead, the true terror stems from human psychology. If you’ve seen the movie Smile, the vibe this film offers is quite similar and equally terrifying.

🎭 1. Nikki's Phenomenal Acting

One of the main highlights that makes this movie so scary is the atmosphere built through Nikki's acting. Her performance is phenomenal! Every time she smiles, the movie's tension drastically changes into something incredibly suspenseful.

Moreover, for a movie that doesn't have a massive budget, the kill scenes are executed quite brutally and are sure to satisfy thriller enthusiasts.

☠️ 2. A Dark Message: The Toxic Reality of Obsessive Love

This film carries a very powerful yet dark message: Obsessive love is incredibly unhealthy.

We are shown how love can mutate into something deeply manipulative and cruel. In anime terms, this is basically a yandere situation where all sense of humanity and control is lost. I also really love how the premise smoothly introduces supernatural elements without ruining the core psychological narrative.

⏳ 3. A Slightly Slow Pace

Of course, it has its flaws. The pacing of the movie feels a bit slow, so you might find some parts slightly boring. However, if you think about it, this pacing makes sense because the main character, Bear, is not a brave guy. He is such a coward that he resorts to using a one wish willow just to get what he wants.

Another minor flaw is the cinematography: it's way too dark! I understand the intention was to create a creepy and horrifying atmosphere, but it is literally too dark. Even watching it in a cinema, it's hard to see what’s going on, haha.

🎬 4. A Lasting Ending

When it comes to the ending, I felt deeply satisfied. In the end, Nikki regains her senses and is left to deal with the trauma completely alone while all her friends die right in front of her. That is precisely where the peak of the psychological horror lies—the guilt and trauma she must bear by herself.
