Bland Yet Exposes the Dark Side of Humanity

Sleeping Beauty Banner

The final movie I'll be reviewing this time is Sleeping Beauty. This movie leaves a very strange and unusual impression compared to everything else.

Honestly, I give it a score of 6/10. Throughout the runtime, the movie feels incredibly flat and almost completely devoid of expression. But strangely enough, that lack of expression is exactly its core essence. Let's dig deeper!

😐 1. A Flat Vibe and a Relatable College Struggle

From the very beginning, the movie feels totally bland. The characters' expressions are empty, and the direction of the story had me confused for a while. However, beneath all that, I found myself quite relating to the character of Lucy.

As a fellow college student struggling and working hard to earn money for tuition, I completely understand her initial motivation. The difference is, of course, the paths we chose. I'm still making money the honest, halal way, while Lucy... well, she definitely went down a dark, haram path for quick cash.

💰 2. Human Greed and How "Money Talks"

Even though it seems very confusing as to where the main focus of the story lies, you eventually realize that the movie is a raw reflection of human greed.

In this film, the concept of "money talks" is heavily prominent. Money can drive humans to do crazy things and degrade their dignity. This dark side of humanity is explored in a quiet yet piercing manner.

😨 3. Horror Without Jumpscares and a Confusing Open Ending

The ending left me completely baffled. It is the kind of open ending where you are left to guess what actually happened or what the picture ultimately means.

But that is exactly where the "horror" of this movie lies. This isn't a cheap horror movie relying on jumpscares or ghosts. The horror here is purely psychological, revealing how broken and dark the other side of humanity can be. The confusion and lingering discomfort at the end are exactly the intended effects.

🎬 Conclusion & Moral Message

Even though the movie is incredibly flat, I truly love the message it brings. We are taught not to blindly trust anyone.

More importantly, we must never let money control our lives. We are human beings, not robots driven by material wealth, which means we desperately need strong self-control.

Final Score: 6/10 ⭐️

What about you guys? Do any of you enjoy this kind of expressionless psychological horror that relies heavily on an open ending?
